CMA initiated the highest response to severe typhoon Haikui

At 6:00 p.m. today, CMA initiated the level one emergency response to coming severe typhoon Haikui.


At the same time, the Central Meteorological Office of CMA issued the red category warning for typhoon, the highest category warning for typhoon at 6:00 p.m. today. At 5:00 p.m. it was centered about 230 km southeast of Xiangshan County, Zhejiang province (27.9N, 123.4E) with maximum wind force up to scale 15 (48m/s) near its center. It is forecasted to move northwest at speed of 15 km per hour to approach to the coastal areas between Zhoushan to Yuhuan in Zhejiang and land on these areas in late tonight or tomorrow morning.


CMA urges its internal bodies and institutions concerned and meteorological departments of Zhejiang, Shanghai and Jiangsu to enter level one emergency response immediately to do a good job of meteorological service.


CMA has sent working groups to Zhejiang and Shanghai to guide the meteorological service. (Aug. 7)

Gale forecast in the next 24 hours from 8:00 p.m. today. Blue color region indicates high wind with force scale 7-8, with navy blue for gale up to scale 9-10, yellow for scale 11-12, and brown for scale over 13.


Rainfall forecast in the next 24 hours from 8:00 p.m. today. Blue region means heavy rain with rainfall of 25.0-49.9mm, navy blue for rainstorm with rainfall 50.0-99.9mm and purple for severe rainstorm with rainfall of 100.0-250.0mm and brown for super rainstorm with rainfall over 250.0mm.
