CMA begins to issue meteorological condition forecast of air pollution

On September 1, China Meteorological Administration (CMA) started to issue meteorological condition forecast of air pollution  formally, and provide decision-making supports for governments and environmental protection departments. The new standard of forecast level is divided into six levels according to whether the meteorological condition is good for air pollutant dilution, diffusion and removal.  

 

The meteorological condition forecast of air pollution is issued twice a day (at 8:00 and 20:00) to all-levels meteorological department, website, decision-making sectors, media, which is accessible for departments and the public.

 

National meteorological condition forecast of air pollution in next 24 hours from 8:00 today. (Green-Level 1, Light green-Level 2, Yellow-Level 3, Orange-Level 4, Red-Level 5 and Brown-Level 6.)

 

In the technical process, the met. condition of air pollution forecast analyses air quality, atmospheric composition such as PM2.5, PM1, aerosol,  weather real-time conditions and meteorological parameter such as circulation feature, temperature inversion, altitude of mixing layer and others.

 

The meteorological condition forecast of air pollution will be enriched continuously. By 2015, the national-level forecasts will include six products, such as falling areas forecast, objective forecast, medium-term trends forecast, probability forecast and decision-making service information. Among them, the timeliness of falling areas forecast are expected reach 48 hours in 2014, 72 hours in 2015 while objective forecast will cover 2513 encrypted station and be expanded into 48 hours forecast.
