The 5th National Forum on Comprehensive Disaster Reduction and Sustainable Development held

The coming May 12 will be the 6th “disaster prevention and reduction day” of China. The theme of this year is “Urbanization and Disaster Prevention”. As an important part of the series activities of May 12, the 5th National Forum on Comprehensive Disaster Reduction and Sustainable Development held was held in Beijing on May 8. Over 200 specialists, experts and managers participated in the forum.

 

This forum was sponsored by the Expert Committee of National Disaster Reduction Commission and supported by Ministry of Civil Affairs (MCA) and China Meteorological Administration (CMA). The participants jointly discussed the disaster reduction framework of UN after 2015, further reform and disaster reduction and relief mechanism construction, extreme weather and climate event, disaster risk management and adaptation and other relevant topics.

 

Chairman of the Expert Committee of National Disaster Reduction Commission and Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences Qin Dahe attended the forum and delivered a speech. He shared the main achievements of IPCC AR5 and stressed that climate change has become an indisputable fact.

 

Vice Minister of MCA and Secretariat of National Disaster Reduction Commission Jiang Li emphasized that under the background of global climate change, extreme weather and climate events increased remarkably, natural disaster became more abnormal and sudden. Therefore, natural disaster has become the same challenge of human beings. He expected this forum to be a platform for strengthening researches on Chinese and global comprehensive disaster and risk, relevant strategy, developing trend and key techniques and intensifying the international communication and cooperation in disaster prevention and reduction.
