On Nov.19, the Fifth Asia/Oceania Meteorological Satellite Users' Conference (AOMSUC) was held in Shanghai. The conference composed by special reports, round-table conference, users technical meeting and regional needs seminar will last for 3 days and make improving regional meteorological satellites application as purpose.

Dr. Zheng attended the opening ceremony and made the speech.

Zheng Guoguang, Administration of China Meteorological Administration (CMA) expressed the welcome on behalf of CMA to these representatives and experts. He says that the initial intention of creating such a regional platform through AOMSUC has been successfully fulfilled since the first conference in 2010. Based upon the platform, AOMSUC is now further exploring the cooperation in establishing mechanism, concrete projects, capabilities of development, for the purpose to provide an excellent forum for Members in Asia and Oceania to meet and enhance their joint efforts in the utilization of satellite data and products for improved weather and climate services. Through the WMO Information System and the satellite-based broadcasting systems, China has provided users in the region and around the world with FY satellite data and products. CMA encourages experience sharing in products development, data receiving and processing, as well as remote sensing application.

This conference is a new start point, with the focus on synergizing the development of meteorological satellites in various countries, advancing the satellite remote sensing science and promoting satellite application in weather forecast, climate prediction and disaster management to a higher level. CMA will continue with every effort to contribute to build the effective platform and long-term cooperative mechanism for the benefit of satellites users in Asia-Oceania and the rest of the world at large.

Jeremiah Lengoasa attended the conference.

Jeremiah Lengoasa, Deputy Secretary-General of World Meteorological Organization(WMO) showed the congratulation to the conference holding. He said WMO would continue to provide supports the AOMSUC and other regional cooperation to improve capacity building of addressing climate change and disasters risk in developing countries.

AOMSUC-5 was organized by CMA, co-sponsored by WMO, GEO, JMA(Japan Meteorological Administration), KMA(Korea Meteorological Administration) and BOM( Australian Bureau of Meteorology). More than 100 experts from Asian and Oceanian meteorological departments, scientific research institutions and colleges as well as National , World Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration of USA(NOAA), Russian Federal Service For Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring, WMO, European Organisation for the Exploitation of Meteorological Satellites (EUMETSAT) and GEO attended the conference.

The representatives will develop exchange on satellite data acquisition, application in weather forecast, climate analysis, disasters mitigation and others. Meanwhile, the long-term operational mechanism, the building of Asian satellites demonstration center and Shanghai Declaration also will be discussed. (Nov.20)
