Dr. Zheng Guoguang

Born in 1959 in Lianshui, Jiangsu province, Dr. Zheng Guoguang is a holder of Ph.D. of Science, a Senior Research Fellow, and an Advisor of Ph.D. students. Dr. Zheng graduated from Department of Atmospheric Sounding, Nanjing Institute of Meteorology (now renamed as Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology) in February 1982 and he received his Master Degree in Atmospheric Physics in 1984. In June 1994, he received a Doctor’s Degree of science in University of Toronto.


September 1984-Febraury 1990: he served as Deputy Director of Office of Weather Modification, Deputy of Institute of Meteorological Sciences, and later Deputy Director of the Meteorological Operation Centre, Xinjiang Uighur Autonomous Regional Meteorological Bureau;


February 1990-November 1995: a visiting scholar at the University of Toronto, Canada and then pursuing his Ph.D. and Post-Doctoral studies in University of Toronto;

 

December 1995-November 1998: Assistant to Director and later Deputy Director of the Overall Strategic Planning and Research Office, CMA, and Deputy Director-general of Fujian Provincial Meteorological Bureau;


December 1998-July 1999: Director-general of Department of Observations and Telecommunication;


August 1999-March 2007: Deputy Administrator of CMA and a member of the CPC Leading Group, CMA.


From March 2007, Administrator of China Meteorological Administration (CMA) and Secretary of the CPC Leading Group of CMA.

 

Presently, Administrator Zheng holds concurrent posts of Chairman of the National Climate Committee, Chairman of the Chinese Committee of the Global Climate Observing System (GCOS), a member of the Working Group of National Addressing Climate Change and Energy-saving and Emission-reduction and Deputy Director of the Liaison Office under Leading Group Office of Addressing Climate Change, and Adjunct Professor of Peking University, Nanjing University of Information Science & Technology, member of the UN Secretary-General High-Level Panel on Global Sustainability, Permanent Representative of China to World Meteorological Organization (WMO), a member of the Executive Council of WMO, and Co-Chair of the Group on Earth Observation (GEO).      

 

Responsibilities:

In charge of overall work of CMA.
