In 2014, Beijing Meteorological Service (hereafter referred to as the Service) started to establish smart grid forecasting platform. In December, 2016, Beijing Meteorological Station set up an initial 0-10 day smart grid forecasting product system on the strength of iGrAPS. It has realized integrated operation of site and grid point, and formally launched smart grid forecast. On July, 2017, smart grid forecast has been integrated into meteorological services, enabling the public to get access to accurate weather forecast.
Smart grid forecast products includ precipitation, visibility, 2m relative humidity, 10m wind and houlry temperature.
At present, Beijing can provide 1-kilometer spatial resolution smart grid forecast within 0 to 10 days. It boasts the highest accuracy among national meteorological departments. The minimum temporal resolution is 1 hour. Besides, 16 urban forecasting sites in Beijing derive their results entirely from gird point fields, which have ensured the consistency of prediction results. Beijing Meteorological Service Center has also developed weather software for the public to browse hourly weather prediction of a certain location. This software is a brand-new attempt targeted at special tourism meteorological service.
Currently, Beijing Meteorological Station is studying single-factor spatial distribution rule and objective forecasting technical approach, which has provided technical pillar for objective automatic temperature forecast. It aims to leverage the subjective experience of forecasters and comes up with results via technical approaches.
Furthermore, the Service has also updated iGrAPS. The updated version will uplift the spatial and temporal resolution of smart grid forecast, support the compilation of 16 meteorological factors, and optimize gird-site integrated compilation tools; realize smart coordinative correction among factors, spatial and temporal consistency, and integration of key technologies like temperature objective forecast; enable the data connection of iGrAPS and VIPS; and generate now-casting and short-range warning products.
In the midst of smart grid prediction construction, Beijing Meteorological Station has also improved forecast service position administration and reset contemporary weather operation positions.
