2017 international training course of numerical weather prediction is opened in NUIST

On the morning of November 20, 2017 international training course of numerical weather prediction (NWP) inauguration ceremony was hosted in NUIST. 17 trainees from countries and regions like Chile, Senegal, South Africa, Pakistan, and Brazil participated in this training course.

Mr. Ma Tinghuai, executive deputy director of WMO Nanjing Regional Training Center, extended cordial welcome to trainees from different countries and briefed on NUIST and WMO Nanjing Regional Training Center. He remarked that NWP elevated the timeliness and accuracy of prediction and played a mounting role in conventional weather forecast. It is also instrumental in meteorological disaster forecast and warning. NWP not only provides fundamental expertise in learning and helps them scale up practical skills. It's hoped that the training will enhance the capabilities and have a better understanding of China’s culture and customs as well.

Mr. ABDENOUR AMBAR from Algeria gave a speech on behalf of all trainees. He expressed that with the advances of sci-tech knowledge, NWP is undergoing a seemingly tranquil transformation and has a higher demand of practitioners’ knowledge and technical caliber. Therefore, learning cutting-edge NWP model will help us beef up forecasting capacity and benefit all trainees. He extended his gratitude to the Chinese government, NUIST and WMO Nanjing Regional Training Center for this superb platform. (Nov. 28)
