RTC Nanjing held a training course for developing countries climate change and information services

On the afternoon of May 8, Developing Countries Climate Change and Information Services Training Course closing ceremony was held in Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology (NUIST), the WMO RTC Nanjinig. 32 trainees from 10 countries like Laos, South Sudan, Tunisia, Colombia, Uganda, and Kenya attended the ceremony.

Mr. Liu Xuanfei, the researcher in NUIST remarked that the 3-week training encompassed the fundamental theory of climatology and climate change, meteorological disaster monitoring, prediction and warning, climate resources evaluation and application, as well as GCIS framework, and the technological innovation like the application of AI in climate change. Trainees also conducted field trips to Shanghai municipal meteorological service and Nantong meteorological office. He hoped that trainees could apply what they learned in their daily work, ramp up competitiveness, and elevate the climate information services capability in their respective countries.

Mr. Rokonuzzaman from Bangladesh extended his gratitude to NUIST on behalf of trainees. He stated that climate change and information services played an instrumental role in combating climate disasters. (May. 22)
