Deputy Administrator attended WMO/NWS 2018 International Session to exchange perspectives on global weather enterprise

At the invitation of National Ocean and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) of the United States, Mr. Shen Xiaonong, Deputy Administrator of China Meteorological Administration (CMA), attended WMO/NWS 2018 International Session, Global Weather and Public and Private Partnership Seminar, and American Meteorological Society (AMS)-2018 session (AMS-98).

This session is themed “Communication and the International Weather Enterprise: Improving Service Delivery in Support of Readiness, Response and Recovery”.

At this event, Mr. Shen Xiaonong introduced the progress and practical experience of China’s disaster risk management. He proposed to expedite cross-disciplinary researches, beef up zoning of meteorological disaster risks, and formulate meteorological disaster risk operation. He remarked that under the WMO framework, CMA have proactively delivered on its global accountability, and held several international courses of meteorological risk management. China is willing to join up with other countries and give impetus to meteorological disaster prevention and reduction.

During the PPP seminar, representatives have exchange perspectives on how to foster collaboration with private enterprises and academic institutions. Mr. Shen Xiaonong introduced the collaborative pattern in China and expounded the organic integration of NMHCs, private enterprises and academic institutions in global meteorological enterprise development. He anticipated a better communication among the three irreplaceable components, the formation of a communication platform, standard and regulations, altogether forging development synergy.

During his visit in the United States, Mr. Shen Xiaonong also conducted exchanges with Dr. Petteri Taalas, Secretary General of WMO, and Dr. Louis Uccellini, Director of NWS. (Jan. 23)
