SDS-WAS Asian region steering group meeting held in Hangzhou

From November 11 to 13, the 7th session of SDS-WAS Asian region steering group (RSG) and the 3rd International SDS and Aerosol Workshop was hosted in Hangzhou, Zhejiang.

This meeting aims to coordinate the exchanges and cooperation among SDS-WAS member countries in Asia through academic exchanges and work meeting discussions of the committee and to ramp up the capacities of sand and dust storm monitoring and forecasting. Mr. Zhang Xiaoye, President of SDS-WAS Asian RSG of SDS-WAS chaired this event. Mr. Zhou Qingliang, Deputy Director of World Meteorological Centre Beijing operational office, operational staff from Environmental Meteorological Centre of China Meteorological Administration (CMA), and representatives from World Meteorological Organization (WMO), Republic of Korea, Japan, the United Kingdom, and other countries have exchanged opinions over topics like assimilation application of satellite remote sensing data in sand and dust storm models, application of integrated forecasting system,

During the meeting, Chinese representatives have introduced the work of Regional Specialized Meteorological Centre for Atmospheric Sandstorm and Duststorm Forecasts of Asia, the construction of the website, the application progress of multi-model integrated prediction of sand and dust storm, the assessment and application of AOD products of Fengyun-4A meteorological satellite, and so on.

This meeting has showcased the operation and scientific caliber in sand and dust storm research and numerical weather prediction of CMA, enhanced the understanding of other member countries of the work progresses, and is conducive to international technical exchanges, data and approach sharing, and elevating the application level and prediction accuracy of sand and dust storm monitoring in Asia.
