Typhoon Committee opened the 54rd session online

The 54rd Session of Typhoon Committee (hereafter referred to as TC) was held online. Officials and experts from meteorological, hydrological, and disaster preparedness sectors in U.N. Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), World Meteorological Organization (WMO), and TC attended this meeting. Mr. Yu Yong, Deputy Administrator of China Meteorological Administration (CMA) led the Chinese delegation composed of experts from Ministry of Emergency Management, Ministry of Water Resources, and CMA participated in the meeting.

This session mainly covered topics like the election of the new chairman and vice-chairman of TC, review of the work progress of the committee and all members, the revision of the operational brochure, formulation of the work plan of 2022, passing of 2022-2026 strategic plan, and consideration of the agreement between TC and Asia-Pacific Typhoon Collaborative Research Center (AP-TCRC).

Yu Yong expressed his congratulations to the chairman and vice-chairman of TC. He said that CMA would further support the work of TC, consolidate the communication and collaboration with other members, help members to enhance capacity of typhoon monitoring, forecasting, services, and research, and contribute to regional disaster preparedness.

The 55th session of TC will be hosted by Macau, China.
