On March 3, it is reported that as of late September this year FY-4 satellite will put its construction of main operational system to an end. It is scheduled to launch at the end of 2016.

FY-4 series is China's second generation geostationary meteorological satellites. It is expected to take over relative businesses of FY-2. The satellite attitude is three-axis stabilized to improve the time resolution of observations and regional mobility. The new generation satellites are designed with an enhanced imagery scanning capability, desirable for monitoring small and medium scale weather systems.

According to relative expert’s introduction, FY-4 satellite will find its advantages in weather forecast, numerical weather prediction, disastrous weather monitoring, space weather and environment observations, etc. It stands to give a strong impetus to China’s meteorological development.
