From 10:00 a.m. on August 9, National Satellite Meteorological Centre (NSMC) of China Meteorological Administration (CMA) activated FY-2F regional intensive observation at 6-minute interval to reinforce meteorological warning and provide services for quake-stricken areas in Sichuan and Xinjiang.

In the meanwhile, through the coordination among CMA, China Centre for Resources Satellite Data and Application, and National Disaster Reduction Center of Ministry of Civil Affairs, CHATER mechanism was launched at 10:00 a.m. on August 9, which has realized sharing of multi-source satellite remote sensing data at home and abroad and disaster condition information, and conducted remote sensing monitoring services in quake-hit areas.

CHATER is the most influential space disaster reduction cooperative mechanism. It aims to consolidate humanistic cooperation and provide free satellite data to disaster-inflicted countries, and contribute to disaster monitoring and administration, emergency aid, and post-disaster reconstruction. In the wake of major natural disasters in Wenchuan, Yushu, and Zhouqu, China activated CHATER and has acquired large volumes of satellite remote sensing data and products, which have been instrumental in providing effective information and services. At present, China’s products in this regard include SJ-9A , Gaofen-1, FY-3C, and so on. (Aug.10)
