CMA issued yellow warning: typhoon Khanun likely to make landfall on South China on Sunday

The National Meteorological Center issued a yellow category warning of typhoon at 10 a.m. on October 13.

This year’s 20th typhoon Khanun with intensity of tropical storm made landfall in the northern coast of Luzon Island, the Philippines at 3 a.m. October 13 with the maximum wind force of scale 8 (18m/s) and 995 hPa minimum pressure in the central portions. Its center was located in coastal western Philippines at 8 a.m. October 13 (18.0N, 120.3E) ,with scale 8 (20m/s) maximum wind.

It is forecasted that Khanun will move towards west by south then turn to west by north at the speed of 15 kilometers per hour, and will be close to the eastern Hainan Island and coastal areas of western Guangdong afterwards as its intensity strengthens. It may make landfall over the coastal areas from Sanya, Hainan province to Zhanjiang, Guangdong province in the evening of October 15 or the morning of October 16 with scale 11-13, 30-40m/s.

Gale forecast: In the next 24 hours, affected by Khanun and cold air, there will be scale 7-8 gale in southern East China Sea, Taiwan Strait, Bashi Channel and the South China Sea as well as some coastal areas.

Precipitation forecast: Taiwan will experience moderate to heavy rainfall with rainstorm or down pour (100-220mm) in the next 24 hours.(Oct. 13)
