Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao to build higher-level meteorological cooperation

From January 8 to 10, the 32nd Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao seminar on meteorological science and technology, focused on building higher-level cooperative model, was held in Macao Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau. About 60 meteorological experts exchanged views on meteorological research results, operational development, future cooperation and meteorological development planning of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.  

Three sides have established long-term and stable cooperative mechanism, continually deepened data sharing, numerical forecast model development, forecast and service. Meteorology has become a hot issue and important driving force for regional cooperation in Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. With the planning of the urban agglomeration of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area rising to a national strategy, Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao enter a new phase of accelerated integration development.  

Relying on the unique advantages of barrier-free cooperation in meteorology, we must strive to establish an advanced-level meteorological service system, deepen meteorological cooperation toward the “Belt and Road”, take the lead to realize strong areas of meteorological modernization and form a higher-level public safety support system. 

In this Seminar, three sides exchanged 25 academic papers, which covering the major weather process analysis, the application of numerical forecast model, short-term forecast and early warning, refined grid weather, new sounding technology, climate change, ecological meteorology, marine meteorology and big data applications and many other aspects.

Experts conducted a special workshop on the super typhoon Hato, and discussed its characteristics, difficulties in forecast, early warning services and risk prevention and control.

The seminar is held once a year and hosted by three sides in turn.  (Jan.12)
