CMA and MONRE of Vietnam held 12th joint working group session to deepen scientific and technological cooperation in six fields

From September 11 to 12, the twelfth session of the Joint Working Group on cooperation in the field of meteorological science and technology between China Meteorological Administration (CMA) and Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MONRE) of Vietnam was opened in Nanning, Guangxi.

In the session, both sides reviewed the implementation status of the cooperative activities since JWG-11 and signed a Summary Report of the twelfth session. According to Summary Report, CMA and MONRE will deepen cooperation in 6 areas including weather forecast, exchange of meteorological information, training for human resource development, exchanges on meteorological instrument calibration technology, regional climate prediction and cooperation for Asia and construction of Regional Multi-Hazard Alert System for Asia. Both sides also considered that the cooperation between CMA and MONRE was significant for promoting two countries economic and social development.

Liu Yaming, Administrator of CMA met with delegation of MONRE and attended signing ceremony. Shen Xiaonong, Deputy Administrator of CMA and Tran Hong Thai, Acting Administrator of Vietnam Meteorological and Hydrological Administration, MONRE signed the Summary Report.

Since the Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation was signed in 1993, China and Vietnam have carried out more 140 meteorological scientific and technological cooperative projects in fields of weather forecast, information sharing, training and education. Aiming to disastrous weather such as typhoon, two sides have established weather consultation system to accelerate meteorological disasters preparedness and mitigation. (Sep.14)
