On November 14, APSCO 10th Anniversary High Level Forum was held in Beijing. China National Space Administration (CNSA), China Meteorological Administration (CMA), and Asia-Pacific Space Cooperation Organization (APSCO) signed Fengyun meteorological satellite coopration agreement, which will optimize the configuration of FY series satellite constellation, and enable data resources and services of FY series meteorological satellites to further benefit APSCO and its member states.

According to the agreement, three parties will deepen cooperation in terms of FY series satellite application and enhance the capabilities of APSCO in weather prediction, disaster prevention and mitigation, and response to climate change; conduct data application and innovation based on FY series satellite data, and uplift the socio-economic profits to the largest extent.

CNSA and CMA will optimize the configuration of FY series satellite constellation, provide real-time data and services of FY satellites to APSCO and its member states, upgrade CMACast of APSCO member states, promote the construction of “Belt and Road” space information corridor, conduct FY satellite application technological training for APSCO and its member states, and improve their processing and analyzing capacities of satellite data.

Through several decades’ development, China’s space infrastructure like Beidou satellite navigation system, high resolution earth observation system and FY meteorological satellite system has gained momentum and enhanced quality in a comprehensive manner, and the integrated technology has scaled global leading level. At present, China has successfully launched 17 FY meteorological satellites, with 8 in stable orbital operation. FY meteorological satellite is not only an important member of global earth observation system, but also the on-duty satellites under the mechanism of the international charter on disaster reduction. They have provided services for 93 countries and regions.
