Recently, Yarlung Tsangpo Grand Canyon water-vapor channel expedition squad of the second Qinghai-Tibet Plateau integrated scientific expedition has completed the water-vapor transportation mechanism and subject research on the Tower of Asia. The squad has set up water-vapor facilities and obtained data in this region, which marks the completion of the largest three-dimensional observation network of the water-vapor channel in Qinghai-Tibet Plateau.
Multi-year research has shown that southeastern Qinghai-Tibet Plateau is the largest water-vapor transportation area in the plateau and its neighboring areas. Due to frequent natural disasters in the area, the road is often blocked and it’s difficult to establish back-to-back meteorological and climate observation station. The squad has established a few integrated observation stations at different altitudes of the canyon, and carried out observation of factors like land surface radiation, turbulence flux, near surface meteorological factors, troposphere atmospheric temperature and humidity structure, and cloud precipitation, providing observation data for studying water-vapor changing rules in the channel of the Canyon and analyzing water-vapor transportation mechanism and dynamic changes of the Tower of Asia.
It is informed that the second Qinghai-Tibet Plateau scientific expedition was kicked off in 2017, which revolves round the effects of environmental change process and mechanism on human society in Qinghai-Tibet Plateau in the past five decades. Scientific practitioners have carried out expedition on the impact of Tower of Asia change on Yarlung Tsangpo Grand Canyon water-vapor channel. (Nov. 12)
