From November 12 to 16, the 49th China Study Tour was held in Guangdong and Hainan. 14 representatives from 10 National Meteorological and Hydrological Services (HMHSs) like Nepal, Kyrghyzstan, Bangladesh, and Mozambique and the Secretariat of World Meteorological Organization (WMO) participated in this event. Mr. Yu Yong, Deputy Administrator of China Meteorological Administration (CMA) took part in the event.
The tour group learned about Fengyun meteorological satellite application, meteorological modernization construction, and disaster preparedness, visited operational units like Guangzhou meteorological satellite ground station. The tour group also exchanged views on World Meteorological Centre Beijing construction as well as elevating meteorological services of different countries.
In the midst of rising threats from extreme weather and climate events and rapidly developing emerging technologies, meteorological operations of different countries are facing unprecedented opportunities and challenges. Yu Yong expressed that Guangdong has served as a window of opening-up policy of CMA and a testbed, from where many good practices and experience extend to other parts of China. CMA attaches vital significance to Belt and Road meteorological cooperation, and will explore more cooperative fields with different countries, further exert the functions of World Meteorological Center-Beijing, provide high quality satellite data and forecasting products, and work together to ramp up meteorological support for socio-economic development.
The Study Tour went to haikou, capital of Hainan province, to attend the internatioanal users confrerence and learned about local meteorology development. (Nov. 21)
