During the conference
The Tenth Asia-Oceania Meteorological Satellite Users’ Conference was opened in Melbourne, Australia on December 4. Mr. Yu Xinwen, Deputy Administrator of China Meteorological Administration (CMA) attended this event. The mechanism of AOMSUC was initiated in 2009 by CMA, and is a major exchange mechanism of regional meteorological satellites and their application. The conference is undertaken by relevant countries in turn.Yu Xinwen recognized the important role this mechanism has played in supporting regional disaster preparedness, sustainable development, and protection of human safety and wellbeing. He expressed that CMA earnestly implemented the promise by Chinese President Xi Jinping and actively pushed forward Fengyun meteorological satellites to serve Asia-Oceania region. In the past one year, the international application of FY satellites has made active progresses.
CMA has specifically formulated action plan of the international application and service of FY satellites, with satellites data and products like FY-2H and FY-4A open to the international community.Emergency Support Mechanism for International Users of FengYun Meteorological Satellites in Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (FYESM) has played its role. And the number of its international registered users has multiplied from 16 to 27. International service capacity of FY satellites has been further bolstered and boasted closer exchanges with international users.
On December 5, Yu Xinwen was invited to pay a visit to Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MONRE) and Department of Meteorology and Hydrology of Lao People’s Democratic Republic and held a bilateral meeting with Mr. Sommad Pholsena, Minister of MONRE. Both sides exchanged discussions over bilateral meteorological scientific cooperation and reached consensus. Yu Xinwen gave away use certificate of multilingual early warning dissemination system to Sommad Pholsena.It is informed that the 11th Asia-Oceania Meteorological Satellite Users’ Conference will be undertaken by CMA in 2020.
