On November 16, China Meteorological Administration (CMA), Ministry of Public Security, Ministry of Transport, National Railway Administration, and State Post Bureau jointly released the plan of meteorological support for transportation during the 14th Five-Year Plan (hereafter referred to as the Plan). The Plan aims to form a comprehensive transportation meteorological service layout featured by coordinated deployment, implementation and support by multiple departments in five key areas of highway, railway, inland water transportation, marine transportation, and multimodal transport.
In a bid to boost the meteorological support for the modern comprehensive transportation in in an integrated manner, CMA spearheaded the work with these four departments, abided by the principle of demand-oriented, and jointly carried out top-level design.
According to the Plan, CMA and related departments will establish a precise monitoring system, conduct a general investigation of transportation meteorological disaster risks, build a high quality meteorological service system for transportation and enhance impact-based transportation meteorological service. In the meanwhile, they will reinfoce the capacity of meteorological observation information regulation and processing. Moreover, an integrated transportation meteorological big dataset and meteorological operational support system are expected to be established in the next five years.(Nov.19)
