National application of SWAN 3.0 expected to elevate extreme weather warning capacity of grassroots

From June 8, SWAN 3.0 of China Meteorological Administration (CMA) was officially in trial operation in China. This is a milestone in national-level short-range forecasting operational system development.

SWAN3.0 is a short-range coordinated forecasting operational platform at the national, provincial, municipal and county level. It can generate short-range forecasting product within 6 minutes. Based on multi-source observation, the system can rapidly and directly serve frontline short-range operation in meteorological departments at the national, provincial, municipal and county level.

SWAN3.0 can give a comprehensive display of data like radar, FENGYUN satellites, regional models of CMA, automatic weather stations, etc. the latest research results of many academic institutions have been applied in SWAN3.0,which has provided technical support for short-range forecasting and early warning.

SWAN3.0 can realize the intelligent alert of severe weather, which is helpful for forecasters to detect extreme weather.
