Many parts of central-eastern China were exposed to severe heat wave

On July 13, high temperature continued to grip central-eastern China. Much of northern China saw temperatures in parts of Hebei, Shaanxi, Shanxi and Xinjiang hit 42℃. The time of heat wave lasted for over 10-13 hours. The high temperature areas reached 2260000 square kilometers. The daily maximum temperatures broke records across three counties of Qi, Quwo and Jiang in Shanxi.

The National Meteorological Center continued to release orange warning of heat wave at 6:00a.m. on July 14.On the daytime of July 14, the temperature of western Inner Mongolia, Gansu, eastern Northwest China, central-southern North China, South of the Yangtze River, eastern South China and South Xinjiang Basin will exceed 35℃. In central-southern Hebei, western and southern Shanxi, northeastern Shaanxi, Guanzhong areas, northern Ningxia, western Gansu, Zhejiang, central Jiangxi and South Xinjiang Basin, the maximum temperature will reach 37-39℃ even exceed 40℃.

The climate experts from National Climate Center pointed out that the heat wave hit China in this year was earlier than normal years. Since May, northern parts of China have experienced 4 times high temperatureprocesses. The period of May 17 to 19 was the earliest high temperature process in Northeast China and North China since 1961.
According to the analysis of these 4 times processes, experts found out high temperature days of five provinces including Hebei, Henan, Beijing, Tianjin and Xinjiang were over 10 days, more than normal years. Inner Mongolia got 3.5 days, the most in the same period since 1961. 

In addition, the daily maximum temperature of near a quarter of the counties and citiesexceeded 35℃, 20% more than the same period last year. The daily maximum temperature of 211 counties and cities has reached extreme events standards, mainly in northeastern North China, Liaoning, eastern Inner Mongolia, central Xinjiang, central Shaanxi, central Sichuan and northern Yunnan and other places. The daily maximum temperature of 245 counties and citiesbroke the monthly maximum, and 60 counties and citiesbroke the historical extreme. 28 meteorological observation stations including Turpan of Xinjiang(49.0℃), Mei County of Shaanxi(42.3℃), Gaoliban of Inner Mongolia(43.6℃), Jingchuan of Gansu(40.0℃)have hit over 40℃.
