Monitoring and prediction research of low visibility fog and haze weather in Beijing and Tianjin approved

Recently, the public industry (meteorology) scientific research Monitoring and prediction research of low visibility fog and haze weather in Beijing and Tianjin has been approved via video. The project has carried out a rather long-term scientific observation experiment and adopted international advanced observational system. Its results have provided crucial scientific basis for gaining insight into the fog-haze weather formation principle in Beijing and Tianjin, as well as Yangtze River Delta Region and elevating prediction level.

The project has directly obtained precious experiment data like physical, chemical and optical features, and set up relevant database after a long term three-dimensional and integrated outfield observation experiment.

Right now, some results of the project have been applied in environmental monitoring and meteorological prediction department of Shanghai, Nanjing, Xia’men, and Taiyuan. RegAEMS, fog-haze NWP system developed by the project has been harnessed in air quality prediction in Shanxi province. In future, it will be applied in air quality and dust-haze prediction operation in provinces like Jiangsu, and Zhejiang. The new generation meteorological chemical model system, WRF-CHEM, developed by the project finds its application in dust-haze prediction in Nanjing.(May. 20)
