On December 21, the professional project of abnormal heavy rainfall conceptual model and diagnosis approach research passed approval. The panel spoke highly of the results of the project and its support for operations.
The project was established in 2013. After three years’ R&D and continuous operational application of its results, most R&D results have been applied and transformed at national-level and provincial operational departments. They have provided climatic background for gaining insight into the abnormality and temporal evolution features of abnormal precipitation temporal change and abnormal factors for forecasters. Results can be invoked via forms like MICAPS platform, website, and platform, and have provided scientific basis and technical support for abnormal heavy rainfall prediction and services.
