Upper-air Observation and Special Observation
Source:
Up to the present China has 89 upper-air sounding stations participating in the global data exchange, 89 acid rain observing stations, 1 GAW global station (Waliguan, Qinghai Province) and 3 Regional Background pollution observing stations (Shandianzi, Beijing; Longfengshan, Heilongjiang Province and Linan, Zhejiang Province). They are all operational. In order to further enhance the capability of integrated atmospheric observation, a number of projects are underway for constructing L-band electronic radio sounding system, wind profiler, lightening detection system, GPS MET radio sounding system and ozone sounding system. At the same time the first phase of the project for establishing a sand storm monitoring, warning and service system has been put into implementation. Within this project, 20 sand storm observing stations in the north and northeast part of China will be installed. These stations will be equipped with some advanced facilities to monitor physical and chemical specifications of aerosols in the atmosphere, including automatic sun tracking photometer, visibility meter, aerosol nephelometer, TSP and so on.
