Tropical Storm Arthur formed on 31 May—one day before the official start of the Atlantic hurricane season—and made landfall on the Belize-Mexico border. It headed west, weakening to a dissipating depression after soaking the Yucatan Peninsula, but threatening to drop some 12-25 cm of rain leading to potential flooding and mudslides elsewhere in Mexico, Belize and Guatemala.
The remnants of Tropical Storm Alma dumped rain on Honduras on 30 May and led to the death of a child in the southern province of Choluteca. The storm blew down trees, knocked out electricity lines, blocked roads and tore off roofs across Honduras, Nicaragua and Costa Rica.
The eastern Pacific hurricane season began 15 May. (June 11)
