BERLIN, June 18 (Xinhua) -- The German cabinet approved on Wednesday the second phase of a major energy-saving and climate-protection package cutting CO2 emission by 35 percent to 36 percent of 1990 levels by 2020, a little less than the package's goal of 40 percent cut.
It's a massive step forward and show the compatibility between economic growth and climate protection, said Environment Minister Sigmar Gabriel.
Economics Minister Michael Glos said German government has now approved all the measures decided in its integrated cliamte and energy package agreed last year.
The measures will be also needed to be passed by both houses of the parliament. (June 19)
