The fifth international seminar on sand storm opened in Urumqi of Xinjiang Autonomous Region. Vice president of Chinese Academy of Meteorological Sciences Zhang Xiaoye chaired the seminar and addressed on behalf of the CMA which hosted the seminar.

   The sponsor of the seminar Y. S. Chuang looked back the history of the seminar and emphasized the importance of the study of the sandstorm and dust fall. He also expressed appreciation to the CMA and Xinjiang Autonomous Region.

   There were more than 30 experts that came from 5 countries attended the meeting. They discussed the issues of monitor, study, forecast and early warning of the sandstorm. (May 23)
