Dec.20, Yunnan Meteorological Bureau Established Laboratory for Monsoon and Meteorological Disaster Research. And the fist steering committee conference was convoked at the same day. Li Zechun, academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, attended and conducted the conference. 

Yunnan, dominated by monsoons, is the typical region being affected by East Asia and Southwest monsoon. And the meteorological disasters have tight relation to monsoon. Laboratory for Monsoon and Meteorological Disaster Research will make great efforts to increase the ability of disaster prevention and mitigation. 

It is reported that, the main task of the laboratory in 2008 are short-term climate forecast and regional climate change response research, as well as monsoon research, and the using of meteorological resources such as wind and solar power. (Feng Ying, Gao Ansheng) (Dec.21)
