Recently CMA climate change special program“50-year changing trend research of rainstorm climate events of central China” was passed acceptance inspection which was made by Wuhan Regional Climate Center. The research program was based on the rainfall material data from 1961-2005 in five provinces of central China. The experts adopted research methods of linear trend, percentile, Mann-Kendall, wavelet analysis and other modern study methods. The study showed the changing trend, abrupt changing and cycle characters of rainfall of precipitation concentration areas, raining days and the extreme precipitation index.
The research showed that the changing trend of storm events in past 50 years presented new characters. They are as follows: increased trend of rainfall and rainstorm days in year, seasons, flood season and plum rain period (except fall rainstorm), which have increased much since year of 1980-1990. General rainfall and days display an increasing trend in percentile above 2%, 5%, 8% and 10%.
The research program also made new exploration and applications. They put forward index of drought and flood gradient. They introduced 5 major extreme rainfall indexes from EU. The program made breakthrough in the establishment of the drought flood model and the application of the meteorological index, which will technically support the Wuhan regional climate changing business system.
