On May 7, CMA Public Meteorological Service Center was formally founded at Beijing. Administrator of CMA Zheng Guoguang and deputy administrator of CMA Xu Xiaofeng unveiled the Center. Leaders of concerned departments like Emergency Management Office of State Council, Ministry of Communication, Ministry of Land and Resources, Ministry of Water Resources and Ministry of Agriculture attended the Unveiling Ceremony.
CMA Public Meteorological Service Center is mainly responsible for state-level media meteorological service, national early-warning information service for sudden public events, as well as professional guidance to the national public meteorological service.
Xu Xiaofeng said that the establishment of CMA Public Meteorological Service Center, as an important component of the public service system of Chinese government, was an important measure of CMA for meeting the requirements of economic development and social advancement, further improving the meteorological disasters prevention and mitigation, constantly strengthening construction of public meteorological service system and actively promoting the development of modern meteorological operation.
Xu Xiaofeng asked the Public Meteorological Service Center to further strengthen public meteorological service through improving the capability of preventing and mitigating meteorological disasters and the capability of adapting and mitigating climate change. Firstly, perfecting the organization mode and operation mechanism. Secondly, constantly improving the capability of public meteorological service. Thirdly, constantly expanding the coverage of public meteorological service. Fourthly, providing more active, sensitive and targeted public meteorological service. Fifthly, promoting the development of public meteorological service together with all levels meteorological departments and other concerned departments. (May 8)
