At about 9 o’clock, accurate, effective and timely meteorological service ensures the Olympic Flame successfully over the top of Mount Qomolangma.

    Before it, at 8 o’clock of May 8, Central Meteorological Observatory telephoned the meteorological support team in the National Weather Conference. Through the line, Zheng Guoguang, Administrator of China Meteorological Administration, condoled the team and affirmed its members’ achievement. Zheng hoped that they could continue to complete the task of meteorological support successfully.

    Zheng praised that “The Olympic torch relay on the top of Mount Qomolangma is an significant feat in history as well as a bright spot of 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.  The support team offers accurate and timely weather forecast to the torch relay on the top of Mount Qomolangma and has received affirmation from the Beijing Organizing Committee. This is the honor of all the meteorological personnel.” The weather on the top of Mount Qomolangma is very complex. In order to ensure the Olympic flame can successfully over it, the team members arrived there 1 month in advance and closely monitored the weather condition. They have overcome a lot of difficulties like hypoxia and bad living environment, and have been keeping a good working state in the task of meteorological support.

    Just before the Olympic torch would over the top of Mount Qomolangma, Zheng Guoguang affectively condoled the team members that “I hope you can pay attention to the safety and your own health, make persistent efforts to complete the task of meteorological support successfully. We are waiting for your safe and glorious return”. (May 8)
