Zheng Guoguang: China Will Help Developing Countries to Prevent Severe Disasters

   Recently tropical storm Nargis hit Myanmar and caused vast loss. The director of CMA Zheng Guoguang said that CMA would actively construct regional climate center and typhoon early warning center aimed to East Asia by giving full play to the advantage of the CMA and its influence in the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), Group on Earth Observation (GEO) and other international organizations. CMA would share rich experience and technology advantages in disaster prevention and reduction with the neighboring developing countries and extend aid to them.    
   
   Zheng Guoguang said that low economic level, large population and diversified nations, weak infrastructure, high disaster incidence, high risk of economic development are common characters of China and its neighboring countries. He said that the disaster of Nargis told us that major and important natural disasters had become the major obstacle and largest threat to the security of nation. 

  
   Zheng Guoguang introduced that CMA had presented many meteorological equipments to neighboring developing countries and helped to establish meteorological satellite information procession system for the ASEAN nations. CMA also developed cooperation program and trained personnel for those countries which greatly enhanced their ability to prevent and fight disaster.  (May 9)
