On May 13 the director of CMA Zheng Guoguang and vice director Zhang Wenjian attended the national weather forecast consulting conference of the Central Meteorological Office. At the meeting, Zheng Guoguang conveyed the spirits of “the emergent notice calling for best performance of meteorological departments on the earthquake relief and meteorological service work”. The notice requires that all of the meteorological bureaus of Sichuan, Chongqing, shannxi, Gansu and other provinces, all of the directly subordinated units of CMA, and other related institutions should try best to do meteorological service work.              
    

   The notice asked every unit to put the earthquake relief work top priority and make all of the effort to fight the disaster and do well for the meteorological service. All of the major directors of the units should present on the site personally, attentively watch the current situation, and actively arrange the relief and weather service work. The notice called for all of the members of the Communist Party and the Communist Youth League should play leading role in the disaster relief activities. The meteorological bureaus of all the provinces should take measures to stabilize the mood of the personnel and mobilize them to fight the disaster and help each other. All of the units should strengthen the consulting on the weather of the earthquake hit areas and provide timely information to the people and government especially the information on the abnormal weather.           
    

   The notice required all of the units and institutions should attentively master the situation of the earthquake hit regions and the meteorological service. They should make great effort to do the work of contact and coordination, professional direction, and technology support for the needed. The units should try best to connect the information-lost stations and timely hand in the truth situation report. All of the units should carry out emergency on-duty system and keep close contact with the local government and CMA. The situation report should be updated in every 4 hours. Zheng Guoguang called for the meteorological departments unite closely and double effort to do the meteorological work under the lead of the government, which will surely contribute much to the success of the earthquake relief work.(May 14)
