On May 15 CMA convened the national meteorological consulting conference, on which Zheng Guoguang conveyed the spirit of the national disaster-fighting conference on May 14.

    
 Zheng said that the earthquake had caused vast loss and it was very difficult to fight the disaster, which made the situation much serious. The central government required all of the departments put the disaster relief work top priority. So the meteorological units should do good job on two points:

First, meteorological departments should do better in self-help. The safety and basic necessities of the staff should be guaranteed. Second, the meteorological departments should provide good service for the disaster-fighting work. The related departments should closely monitor the change of the weather of the earthquake areas and strengthen the consulting with the local stations in order to offer precise forecast. Apart from the disaster relief work, the meteorological departments should also ensure the normal operation of the flood season weather service. (May 15)
