On morning July 2 the CMA earthquake fighting and rescue summarization and reconstruction meeting was held. The director of CMA Zheng Guoguang and vice director Xu Xiaofeng, Yu Rucong and Shen Xiaonong attended the meeting which was chaired by vice director Wang Shourong.  

    Zheng Guoguang pointed out that after the quake CMA quickly took action to go all out to do good job of disaster fighting and rescue work and recovered the meteorological operation at the first time, which contributed much to the disaster relief and rescue work. The effort made by the meteorological departments received highly approval of the central government. Zheng required that all of the departments and personnel should study the speech and instruction spirits made by the central government leaders and continue to try best to do reconstruction work.    

     
    On the meeting vice director Xu Xiaofeng put forward four requirements:

    First, the meteorological departments should carry out the speech spirits made by president Hu Jintao and try best to enhance the ability of disaster prevention and mitigation. All levels of the department across the country should study and firmly implement the important speech spirits made by central government leaders in order to successful accomplish the work of flood control and disaster mitigation. All of the concerned workers should try best to enhance the accuracy of the forecast and its timeliness. The climate change research should be strengthened in order to better fight the extreme weather and reduce loss. 

    Second, we should carefully analyze and summarize the experience and lessons of the disaster fighting and do good job of the reconstruction work. Since the reconstruction work was very serious the concerned departments should summarize the experience of the meteorological service and further perfect the meteorological emergency service system and the disaster prevention and mitigation ability of the meteorological infrastructure.   

    Third, the meteorological departments should grasp the chance to deepen reform and promote the development of the meteorological service. The departments should adhere to the public meteorological orientation and try best to enhance decision-making meteorological service, public meteorological service and professional meteorological service.   

    Forth, the departments should strengthen the disaster prevention and mitigation ability and do good work of flood season meteorological service, earthquake fighting and rescue meteorological service and Beijing Olympic meteorological service. All levels of the department should reinforce the awareness of the responsibility to closely watch all kinds of the weather change and carefully and timely release the  weather forecast and warning.  (July 3)
