On July 2, in the monthly news conference of China Meteorological Administration (CMA), Zhai Panmao, Deputy Director General of Department of Forecasting Services and Disaster Mitigation said that although this year the precipitation of Beijing was more than the normal years, the probability of rainstorm on the day of opening ceremony of Beijing Olympic Games would be low.
Yang Guiming, Chief Forecaster of Central Meteorological Office (CMO), explained that from the meteorological point, August 7 would be Beginning of Autumn of 24 solar terms, which would mark be the turning period of weather.
In addition, according to the present forecast of CMO, the rainy season may generally end after August 7. “Generally speaking, the rainy season of North China goes from the last 10 days of July to the first 10 days of August. However, this year the summer monsoon and Meiyu period came 10 days in advance, which means that the rainy season in the first 10 days of August may probably end in advance.” Yang Gui said.
Zhai Panmao expressed that although the probability of rain storm on the day of opening ceremony of Beijing Olympic Games would be low, CMA has always been paying high attention on the meteorological service for Beijing Olympic Games. CMA will also comprehensively apply the forecasting and warning systems so as to improve the accuracy of forecast. (July 4)
