From November 19 to 22, the 19th Integrated Workshop/the Asia-Pacific Typhoon Collaborative Research Center (AP-TCRC) Forum "Strengthening the Value Chain within the UN EW4All Framework for the Typhoon Committee Region" of the United Nations ESCAP/World Meteorological Organization (UNESCAP/WMO) Typhoon Committee (hereinafter referred to as "the Typhoon Committee") was held in Lingang New Area of Shanghai Free Trade Zone to promote the application of new technologies for Early Warnings for All in typhoon warnings, and push forward international scientific cooperation and industrial upgrading. The main theme of the AP-TCRC Forum is “Embracing New Technologies for Achieving Early Warnings for All."
Dr. BI Baogui, Deputy Administrator of the China Meteorological Administration (CMA), ZHANG Xiaohong, Vice Mayor of Shanghai, and Dr. Mohd Hisham MOHD ANIP, President of the Typhoon Committee attended the opening ceremony.
BI Baogui expressed that CMA was vigorously promoting multi-hazard early warning system construction, including typhoons, and actively supportingthe United Nations'Early Warnings for All Initiative. In the future, CMA will continue to optimize the regional collaborative mechanism for early warning, and jointly explore the needs and experience of early warning under different disaster prevention and mitigation scenarios, in a bid to contributing to ramping up the efficiency of actions in response to extreme weather and climate disasters and enhancing synergies.
ZHANG Xiaohong stated that Shanghai would continuously conduct exchanges and practical cooperation with the international community in aspects such as typhoon early warning and meteorological science and technology innovation, and join hands to grapple with the shared challenge of global climate change.
Mohd Hisham MOHD ANIP said that this event focused on how to harness new technologies to achieve Early Warnings for All in terms of typhoons, constantly improve research methods, and consolidate cooperation to effectively respond to meteorological hazards like typhoon, in the hope of jointly actualizing the objective of Early Warnings for All Initiative under the framework of UN.
This event was hosted by the Typhoon Committee and CMA, and sponsored by Shanghai AP-TCRC and Shanghai Typhoon Institute of CMA.
