From October 10 to 23, Seminar on Management for Director-Generals of NMHSs in Developing Countries was held in Beijing and Anhui, China. 20 management officials and senior technical officials from the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and related departments of meteorology, hydrology, agriculture, fisheries and so on in developing countries participated in the Seminar.

The Seminar focused on meteorological development and international meteorological governance, deepening the trainees' knowledge and understanding of the cutting-edge and hot issues such as international meteorological governance, meteorological services and “meteorology+” empowering the industry in the form oflectures, visits and other teaching activities, in a bid to jointly enhance the ability of meteorological disaster prevention and mitigation.
“Every year, two to three staff members of the Libyan National Meteorological Service (LNMS) come to China to attend conferences, workshops and seminars, especially the impressive and varied courses on satellite imagery, numerical weather prediction, and early warning systems, which are very helpful to us.” AliJUHAYDIR, Director General of LNMS, said. “LNMS needs to build a network of meteorological observation stations and an early warning system, and cultivating meteorological professionals, and hopes to join hands with the China Meteorological Administration (CMA) to carry out relevant technical research, and talent building in the next step.”

KOSMOS EBENEZER AKANDE-ALASOKA, representative of WMO's Regional Association for Africa from Nigeria, said that when he sent photos during the Seminar to his family, and they expressed their desire to have such a joyful experience as well. “The Seminar experience is a treasure that I will always carry with me, and I hope to have the opportunity to visit China again.”
“The experts' lively explanations and lectures made me feel I were back in class with great interest.”BERNARD EDWARD GOMEZ, WMO Public Information Officer from the Gambia said. “The excellent cases and good experiences demonstrated during the Seminar were very convincing and feasible, and I will be promoting these at WMO in the hope of providing some help in the generation and sharing of meteorological data in the African region.”
The Seminar was jointly organized by WMO Regional Training Centre Beijing and Academy for International Business Officials (AIBO), and Ministry Of Commerce Of the People's Republic Of China (MOFCOM).
