In 2023, the average temperature in China registered 10.7℃, 0.8℃ higher than that in a normal year (9.9℃), ranking the highest since 1961, shattering the record of 10.5℃ in 2021. The temperature in most portions of China was 0.5 to 1℃ higher.
13 provinces (municipalities and regions), including Shandong, Liaoning, Xinjiang, Guizhou, Yunnan, Tianjin, Hunan, Hebei, Sichuan, Henan, Beijing, Inner Mongolia and Guangxi, all recorded highest temperatures since 1961. 127 national meteorological observatories broke the all-time maximum daily temperatures.
In 2023, the average precipitation nationwide recorded 615.0 mm, 3.9% less than usual. The daily precipitation registered by 55 national meteorological observatories broke the historical extremes.
