On Janurary 1, the Ground-based Remote Sensing Vertical Observation System (hereinafter referred to as the System) was put into operation, which has enabled operational observation of the vertical profile of the atmosphere at the minute level. At present, the System is operating stably, with a data acquisition rate of over 95%.
In order to promote the establishment of new vertical observation services, Meteorological Observation Centre (MOC) of China Meteorological Administration has organized the development of observing-end, center-level vertical observation operational platforms, provided vertical equipment operation and quality assessment prior to operational access, supported vertical station operational monitoring and integrated product development, standardized as many data formats as possible, and established a blacklist and a whitelist of numerical weather prediction (NWP) model assimilation applications as well as pre-assimilation quality control.
It is known that since 2016, MOC of CMA has taken the lead in implementing the mega-city observation experiment, proposing to combine five types of equipment, such as millimeter-wave cloud gauge, microwave radiometer, wind profile radar, aerosol lidar and GNSS/MET water vapor, into a synergistic vertical observing system, and realizing the data integration of observation of multiple equipment through the performance of the equipment as a mutual complement to each other, and obtaining the five profiles of wind, temperature, humidity, hydrometeor, aerosol, etc., which are observed with a minute frequency. It has also improved the accuracy of wind, temperature and humidity profile inversion under cloudy and precipitation conditions by overcoming the key core problems of the System in calibration technology and quality control methods.
