From February 6 to 7, local time, 15th session of the consultative meeting on high-level policy on Satellite matters of World Meteorological Organization (WMO) was convened in Geneva, Switzerland. Dr. CAO Xiaozhong, Deputy Administrator of China Meteorological Administration (CMA), led the Chinese delegation to attend this event.
This meeting has invited representatives to discuss the progresses of global satellite coordination, which focuses on topics including satellite operators supporting strategic priorities of WMO, identifying the demand for space-based observing systems in the WMO Integrated Global Observing System (WIGOS) vision, responding to the unified data policy of WMO, and to collaborating to support satellite data application in developing countries.
During this event, the Chinese delegation reiterated that the observation data of FENGYUN meteorological satellites would be open and shared to the world, and anticipated to ramp up the application technology level of global satellite products through the establishment of a satellite data application center, consolidate cooperation with WMO and other satellite operating agencies, and propel satellite products to play a greater role in disaster prevention and reduction and response to climate change, in the hope of enabling more developing countries to benefit from the development of satellite technology.
