Recently, the Southeast Asia Oil Tea Camellia Major Meteorological Disaster Risk Warning Product, developed by Hunan Provincial Meteorological Service, has been integrated into MAZU platform of the China Meteorological Administration (CMA), a Joint Action for Early Warnings for All and started trial operation.
China is the origin and a major global producer of oil tea camellia and Southeast Asian countries such as Vietnam, Myanmar, and Thailand also cultivate it with the planting scale gradually expanding. However, meteorological disasters like high temperatures, drought, and prolonged rainy weather constrain the improvement of both yield and quality of oil tea camellia.
In response to the demand from oil tea camellia planting enterprises and farmers for risk warning services targeting major meteorological disasters, Hunan Provincial Meteorological Science Research Institute has developed 7 major meteorological disaster risk warning products to address multi-hazards such as high temperatures during the fruit expansion period, drought during the peak oil conversion period, and prolonged rainy weather during the flowering period. These products are now deployed to provide meteorological disaster risk warning services for oil tea camellia producing regions in Southeast Asia.
