On May 29, China's Meteorological Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Work and the Pilot Demonstration and Communication Meeting for High-quality Meteorological Development was held in Jiangshan, Quzhou, Zhejiang, China. Mr. XIONG Shaoyuan, Deputy Administrator of China Meteorological Administration (CMA) and Mr. SONG Shanyun, Engineer-in-Chief of CMA attended this event.
China meteorological departments have continued to improve the emergency response and coordination mechanism with meteorological warnings as a pioneer, and have promoted the establishment of a sound meteorological disaster prevention and mitigation system. Local meteorological departments have established and improved progressive meteorological service mechanisms and high-level warning “call and response”mechanism, effectively supporting scientific decision-making and orderly scheduling at all levels.
China's meteorological departments have continuously strengthened independent innovation in science and technology, implemented a series of key projects such as meteorological satellites, new-generation weather radars and weather modification. At present, the world's largest comprehensive meteorological observation system, consisting of 9 FENGYUN meteorological satellites, 546 weather radars and more than 70,000 ground surface meteorological stations, has been built.
Moreover, a national emergency early warning information dissemination system and terminal services matrix has been built, realizing at the national, provincial, municipal and county levels, with the dissemination of early warning information covering 89 types of early warning information in 17 departments, and realizing that it can be delivered to decision-makers, highly sensitive industries and emergency response duty personnel within 1 minute.
In 2023, China's national public satisfaction with meteorological services scored 92.4 points, which was kept above 90 points for six consecutive years.
