The year 2024 marks the centenary of the founding of the Chinese Meteorological Society (CMS). As one of the societies with a hundred-year history, CMS has made significant contributions to promoting scientific and technological innovation, popularizing scientific knowledge, promoting academic exchanges, and cultivating talents in the industry and so on.
Looking back to the old days, let's journey through the centennial memento of CMS through a set of photos.
Pre-1949: Establishing a new society
On October 10, 1924, CMS was founded at the Jiao'ao Observatory in Qingdao, Shandong, China.
In 1925, the Journal of CMS started publication.

1950-1978: Inaugurating new developments
In June 1951, The registration of CMS was approvedby the government.
In August 1962, the annual meeting and congress was held with an opening speech by Honorary Chairman ZHU Kezhen and a closing speech by Chairman ZHAO Jiuzhang. And the new council of CMS decided to set up 4 specialized committees on weather and dynamic meteorology, atmospheric physics and meteorological instruments, climate, and agricultural meteorology.
In October 1975, a delegation of CMS, led by Mr. ZHOU Jingmeng, Vice President of CMS (third from the left), was invited to visit the United States and related meteorological organizations.
1979-2012: Achieving a new leap forward
In September 1980, a national conference on meteorological science and technology was held.
In 1981, the magazine of "Meteorological Knowledge" was founded, and as the only onejournal with color photography to popularize meteorological science knowledge in China, continues to this day.
In September, 1987, the English version of the Journal of Meteorology was officially founded.
In 2006, CMS conferred the Honorary Member of CMS on Mr. Michel Jarraud, the then Secretary-General of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) .
2013-2024: Anew journey forward
In March 2021, during the commemoration of the World Meteorological Day, activities like the awarding cermony of the first batch of national meteorological science popularization bases was held.

In July 2024, the 40th National Teenagers' Meteorological Summer Camp was held.
In 2024, UNICEF, National Center for Climate Change Strategy (NCSC) and CMS have launched a new initiative, China Youth, Climate Action, to engage school children in taking actions towards tackling climate change.
