On March 21, to mark the 65th World Meteorological Day (WMD), the Jiaxing Meteorological Department’s science outreach team visited the Wanli Campus of Jiaxing Hexin Experimental School in Zhejiang. Centered on this year’s WMD theme, “Closing the Early Warning Gap Together”, the team delivered an innovative disaster prevention lecture to teachers and students.
During the event, meteorologists provided detailed explanations of meteorological hazards—such as typhoons, torrential rain, and lightning—and their corresponding warning signals. Special emphasis was placed on the four-tier color-coded warning system and their associated defense guidelines. To reinforce engagement, a “Creative Weather Warning Icon Painting” session was held, where students transformed warning symbols and risk-avoidance measures into vibrant artworks.
By integrating professional knowledge into interactive games and art—a format highly appealing to youth—the “Meteorology Education Goes to School” initiative has not only improved the accessibility of disaster preparedness knowledge but also nurtured scientific thinking through hands-on, playful learning.
