Online outreach activities of World Meteorological Day 2020 launched

March 23, 2020, marks the 60th anniversary of World Meteorological Day (WMD), with the theme of climate and water. This year, the celebrating activities of World Meteorological Day 2020 are launched online. On March 23, Ms. Liu Yaming, Administrator of China Meteorological Administration (CMA) attended the launching ceremony of online science knowledge popularization activities. She stresses that meteorological practitioners should implement the new development concept, draw on advantages and ward off risks, carry out refined monitoring, accurate prediction, and elaborate services, and make a bigger contribution to national socio-economic development. Ms. Jiao Meiyan, Deputy Administrator of CMA participated in the activity.

This years theme aims to gain further insight into the relationship between climate and water under the new situation, and be mindful of the significant impacts of climate change incurred by climate phenomena like El Nino and La Nina and human activity on water. CMA and China Meteorological Society (CMS) have jointly organized meteorological industries and departments to conduct celebrating activities in a bid to consolidate meteorological science popularization and outreach. Meteorological department at all levels have rolled out a series of distinctive meteorological science popularization activities like online lectures, online meteorological museums, live broadcast of meteorological science popularization, online games and so on, which will further elevate the public recognition and brand image of WMD.
