On December 21, the 14th Green Book of Climate change, Annual Report on Actions to address climate change (2022) was released in Beijing. This book has conducted an in-depth analysis of new situation and issues in midst of international climate, and showcased China’s policies and actions to fulfill target peaking and neutralization objectives.
During this event, Mr. Zhuang Guotai, the joint editor-in-chief of the book, Administrator of China Meteorological Administration (CMA), and Gao Peiyong, Vice Dean of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences delivered speeches.
Zhuang Guotai pointed out that climate change has posed a severe challenge to sustainable social development of human beings. Currently, China has implemented Paris Agreement and pushed ahead key tasks geared to carbon peaking and neutralization objectives. Response to climate change calls for wide cooperation among myriad departments and disciplines. CMA will further consolidate cooperation with all walks of life, carry out joint research in climate change social economics, and provide more high quality scientific and policy support for all departments and all sectors of society.
Gao Peiyong expressed that 2022 was a key milestone for global sustainable development process. Currently, China has made active strides in fulfilling carbon peaking and neutralization objectives, and made great endeavor to promote green and low-carbon energy transformation. He suggested that both sides should deepen cooperation, and reinforce coordination.
According to the Book, the rare long-lasting heat wave and drought in 2022 has warned us that response to climate change and boosting capacity to address severe weather and climate events risk were of paramount significance and urgency. The society needs to construct climate change risk early warning system, engage in climate change combined impact assessment, and elevate the adaptation and resilience of key sectors against severe weather and climate events.
