On December 29, 2022, China Meteorological Administration (CMA) releasedthe list of the upgrading of national meteorological observatory to national baseline meteorological observatory. 1587 conventional national meteorological observatories with personnel on duty have been upgraded to national baseline meteorological observatories in batches. According to the List, 1520 observatories have been upgraded on January 1.
After assessment, the first batch of 1520 observatories has met the principle and requirement of upgrading and they have been upgraded to national baseline meteorological observatories.
In the wake of the upgrading, the number of climate observation stations will be ramped up and the detection environment in those sites will be improved. A long-term and stable national climate observation network will be formulated.
The year 2023 will be a transitional term for the upgraded observatories. And from January 1, 2024, relevant work will be implemented according to meteorological detection environment protection standard of national baseline meteorological observatory. Key observatories will be renamed.
